Internship (IIP)

Company: Winlight Contents Management Ptd Ltd
Duration: 5/10/11 - 24/01/12 (16 weeks)
Position: QA Tester

The basic role of my job is to play test mobile game application on both Android and iOS platform. One of the game is Elemental Knight Online (EKO) which is develop by the main company, Winlight Co. Ltd, itself. EKO is an online RPG playable on both Android phones and iPhone.



Some other games I have play test are JanNavi, a mahjong game and interactive games like the typical dating game. Other than games that are developed by the company, we also play test for external parties.

I have gain new knowledge and experience though this IIP such as play testing on mobile application as this is the first time for me. Teamwork and communication are really important as to finish the task within the allocated time given.

Overall, I had enjoyable working experience there as I was also offered to extend my contract with them which I gladly did as I believe I am able to learn much more like new skills from there.

Luv Book

Title of game: Luv Book
Platform: PC

Target audience: Tourist (Female)
Theme: Singapore's local attractions

Luv Book is a game created for my Final Year Project (FYP) base on the brief which is to create a web mobile game that centres Singapore of part of Singapore and involves player as a tourist.

The team came up with different ideas like using food or location attraction such as Zoo or Sentosa as the theme for our game. We also decided to present game through a Face Book like medium to suit our target audience. In the end, the team decided to let player play our game which is story based using a Face Book mechanic.

Squrriel Collect, Squirrel Run

Title of game: Squirrel collect, squirrel run(analog)
Platform: Board game
Type: Collecting
Target audience: Children(7yrs and above)
Theme: Squirrel

Description: The purpose of making this game is for T231 Analog Game Theory UT2 assignment, the assignment was to covert a digital game to an analog game for 2 player. The team chosen Accumulate as the digital game which is basically player control an goose and collect other geese and swans while avoiding planes. Since the team target audience is for children, we change the theme of the game to squirrel which is more suitable for children since it is cute. The basic mechanic of the game still remain like it become collecting acorns instead of swans and evading opponent instead of planes.

My role in the game: Doing the Game Design Document like recording down ideas, notes and the changes the team made, parts of the rule book and providing ideas.

Rise of the Meow

Title of the game: Rise of the Meow(Digital game)
Platform: PC
Type: Race to end, obstacle course
Theme: Zodiac

Description: The purpose of making this game is for T331 Game Design Workshop UT2 assignment, the assignment’s game theme is Zodiac so the team came up with idea of having the cat as the main character to race against the 12 animal zodiac based on the story about the zodiac. There are 12 different levels in the game, in each level, the player will have to race against a zodiac animal, the animal zodiac is arranged according to their position in the zodiac world, like first level will be pig which has the 12th position while the last level will be the rat which holds the 1st position. The player have to reach the finish line first while avoiding the obstacles such as logs and water puddles, there is power up for the player to boost their speed for a short while.

Role in the game: Level designer, I design the 12 different tracks and also decide the location of placement of the obstacles in the game. Other than that, is to provide ideas for the game. The diffculty of the game will increase level by level like the length of the track will increase, the noumber of obstacles on the tracks and also the speed of the AI zodiac anaimal. Shown below are some images of my level design of the diffrent tracks. The grey spots on the track design are location of the obstacles but at the point of time, the placement of obstacles are still not yet confirm, the grey spots are the rough locations.





This the design for the first track which belong to the zodiac animal, Pig.



Then this track design for the zodiac animal, Monkey.



And that track design is for zodiac animal, Rabbit.

Process of making this game: The game is based on the idea of the zodiac race story, where by the animals will have to race to the top of the mountain and the first 12 animals who reach first will have a position in the Zodiac. But sadly, the cat was betrayed by the rat thus didnt make for the race, so the game goes as player will control the cat to race the 12 zodiac animals and to win against them to have its revenge and pride back. So every level will have different zodiac animal.

The setting of the game will change as player continue to advance through the different levels, to show that the cat is racing towards the mountain. There three different setting, the first setting is at the forest, followed by bottom of the moutain and lastly, the mountain area. There will be also more curves for the track design as it reaches the mountain areas since mountain paths are usually curvy.

The team at first wanted to allow player to gain different power ups as they advance through the level , something like the Jackie chan zodiac cartoon show where by having the pig zodiac allow user to shoot laser out of their eyes but we decided not to use thid idea cause it is too complicated, so in the end, we just allow player to have speed boost as a power up.
